  • This site has an interactive diagram of the rock cycle that you can use to learn more about the different types of rocks and how they are formed.
  • Geo Mysteries is a great site for learning more about rocks and minerals.

Types of Rocks

This is what we have learned about the different types of rocks so far.
  • Sedimentary: weathering and erosion help to make sedimentary rocks.
    • limestone is an example
  • Metamorphic: these rocks are formed by heat, pressure and time.
    • slate and marble are examples
  • Igneous: these rocks are formed from lava cooling.
    • granite is an example
